I
have been involved with Information Technology for over 20 years.
My commercial background includes senior management roles in software
development, research and consultancy businesses. I have a passion
for processes and innovation and have been involved in both start-ups
and in transforming large organisations to function more effectively.
It was, perhaps, this vision for using technology as a tool to achieve
more effective processes that got me interested in how ICTs could
be used more effectively in civil society.
Professionally,
I'm Managing Director Wairua Consulting
Limited, which provides research, evaluation and consultancy focussing on social and economic transformation, with a strong emphasis on the effective and strategic use of ICT in
business, government and civil society.
My community
ICT background is an
advocate, activist and researcher. I've been involved in a number
of community technology projects, ranging from instigation
and strategy to research and evaluation. I'm Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Government's Digital Strategy Advisory Group and I was the founding chair of
the Waitakere eDemocracy Group
(WeDG). I chair the WaitakereOnline
Editorial Board within Waitakere
City Council and I'm a Trustee of the Work
Raft Trust (a charitable trust working on community ICT projects)
and the CITRUS Trust (New
Zealand Centres for IT Research).
I'm on the interim advisory board of the Community
Informatics Research Network (CIRN), the committee of CIRN Victoria and a member of the Association
of Internet Researchers.
